This paragraph is for instructions on how to use the above forms. Refer to the next sections for PFA information. Read the information below to determine if you need a form. The forms labeled "type on" at the end can be downloaded and typed on. The forms that are labeled "print only" can be downloaded, printed and written on neatly if need be.
Protection From Abuse Orders (Butler County)
Monday through Friday 8:30am to 10:30am
Respond to the Domestic Relations Office located on level "L" of the Butler County Government Center. The entrance to the building is at 124 West Diamond Street.
All temporary petitions will be present to the Family Court Judge at approximately 11:30am. Plan to be at the Government Center/Court House the entire morning. If granted a temporary order must be served to the defendant to take effect. The order will stay in place until a final hearing can be held, which is scheduled within 10 business days.
Emergency Protection From Abuse Orders (Butler County)
Monday through Friday 10:30am to 12:00pm
Follow the instructions above. If you arrive after 10:30am, a staff member will help you assess whether filing an Emergency Petition is appropriate. This shall be coordinated with the Magisterial District Judge after 1:00pm. Refer to the last paragraph in this section for information on granted Emergency Orders.
Monday through Friday 12:00pm to 8:30am the following day

Any Holiday in which the Domestic Relations Office is closed
Click "download" on the appropriate form above, fill out the form, print the form, respond to your local police station with the form. Most police stations in Butler County require you to call 911 to get an officer to respond. Whether this be via call box or on a cell phone. Advise the dispatcher of your name, the correct spelling, your phone number, address and that you are at the station to file for an emergency PFA.
An officer will be dispatched to the station. Present the forms to the officer. Advise of any pertinent information. The officer will contact the on call magistrate. In most cases the form will be faxed or emailed to the Judge. The Judge will determine if there is enough information to grant an Emergency Order or not. If the Judge determines that there is enough information to grant the order, in most cases the Judge will fax the Emergency Order to the police. You should be provided with 3 copies of the Emergency Order. If the defendant's location is not known, tape a copy to your front door and a copy to your back door where it is easily visible. There third copy is for your records.
Granted Emergency Orders only take effect once the defendant has been served or notified officially in some other legal manner. Granted Emergency Orders are only valid until the next business day of the Domestic Relations Office. If you wish to extend the order, you must respond in accordance with the information listed in the Protection From Abuse Orders listed above.
